Date: August 27th, 2023
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Fletcher Wildlife Garden, Prince of Wales Drive
Leader: Dr. Tyler W. Smith, AAFC
Meet: Fletcher Wildlife Garden, Resource Centre Fletcher Wildlife Garden – Google Maps
Description: We will examine the structure of goldenrods and asters and work our way through taxonomic keys to learn the identity of specimens, both inside the Resource Centre and throughout the Backyard Garden. After a brief break for lunch, we will look for goldenrods and asters living elsewhere at FWG and along the paths leading to the lock station. You will need a hand lens or magnifier and a copy of a key to asters and goldenrods. John Gillett’s keys to local asters and goldenrods are available online but please note that the Resource Centre does not have WIFI. You might want to bring a notebook or field guide, but these are not required. Bring a lunch and dress for the weather. This is a rain or shine event.
Registration is required and will be limited. Please contact Lynn at: bigskies@xplornet.ca
